چکیده

Recent breakthroughs in transcriptome analysis and gene characterization have provided valuable resources information about the maize endosperm developmental program. The high temporal-resolution has yielded unprecedented access to genetic control of seed development. Detailed spatial using laser-capture microdissection revealed expression patterns specific populations genes four major compartments: basal transfer layer (BETL), aleurone (AL), starchy (SE), embryo-surrounding region (ESR). Although overall picture transcriptional regulatory network development remains fragmentary, there been some exciting advances, such as identification OPAQUE11 (O11) a central hub connecting development, nutrient metabolism, stress responses, discovery that adjacent scutellum (EAS) serves dynamic interface for endosperm-embryo crosstalk. In addition, several function BETL AL differentiation, cell cycle identified, ZmSWEET4c, Thk1, Dek15, respectively. Here, we focus on current advances understanding molecular factors involved BETL, AL, SE, ESR, EAS including networks each compartment during

Ploidy barrier to endosperm development in maize.

Maize kernels inheriting the indeterminate gametophyte mutant (ig) on the female side had endosperms that ranged in ploidy level from diploid (2x) to nonaploid (9x). In crosses with diploid males, only kernels of the triploid endosperm class developed normally. Kernels of the tetraploid endosperm class were half-sized but with well-developed embryos that regularly germinated. Kernels of endospe...

Transcriptome Dynamics during Maize Endosperm Development

The endosperm is a major organ of the seed that plays vital roles in determining seed weight and quality. However, genome-wide transcriptome patterns throughout maize endosperm development have not been comprehensively investigated to date. Accordingly, we performed a high-throughput RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) analysis of the maize endosperm transcriptome at 5, 10, 15 and 20 days after pollinatio...

Endosperm Mutants of Maize

Sugar metabolism in kernels of starch-deficient endosperm mutants of maize (Zea mays L.) was examined to determine how single locus mutations of carbohydrate metabolism affect carbohydrate metabolism as a whole. Activities of 14 enyzmes were measured in extracts from endosperms from isogenic lines of normal, shrunken, shrunken-2, shrunken-4, brittle-1, and brittle-2 maize in an OH43 background....

Dynamics of maize endosperm development and DNA endoreduplication.

Endosperm development in Zea mays is characterized by a period of intense mitotic activity followed by a period in which mitosis is essentially eliminated and the cell cycle becomes one of alternating S and G phases, leading to endoreduplication of the nuclear DNA. The endosperm represents a significant contribution to the grain yield of maize; thus, methods that facilitate the study of cellula...

NKD Transcription Factors Are Central Regulators of Maize Endosperm Development.

NAKED ENDOSPERM1 (NKD1) and NKD2 are duplicate INDETERMINATE DOMAIN (IDD) transcription factors important for maize (Zea mays) endosperm development. RNA-seq analysis of the nkd1 nkd2 mutant endosperm revealed that NKD1 and NKD2 influence 6.4% of the transcriptome in developing aleurone and 6.7% in starchy endosperm. Processes regulated by NKD1 and NKD2 include gene expression, epigenetic funct...
